LexisNexis, a leading provider of legal, news and business information services, now provides direct and free online access to all Colorado statutory laws! The complete text of Colorado divorce law and related family law statutes (including laws regarding Colorado child support, child custody, parenting responsibilities and timesharing, paternity, spousal maintenance, legal separation, etc.) — all are now accessible and searchable online, and without cost.

The Colorado legislature and LexisNexis reached a five-year agreement in May 2003 (effective July 1, 2003), with LexisNexis becoming the new official publisher of Colorado laws. As part of its agreement with the state of Colorado, LexisNexis is providing the public free access to the Colorado law (the “Colorado Revised Statutes”) and Court Rules, as well as the Colorado and United States Constitutions.

The Role Of Colorado Statutes And Divorce Law

Please note that statutes — the laws created by the Colorado legislature — only define a portion of the body of authority that controls Colorado divorce law. So-called “case law” — the decisions of actual divorce cases as earlier reviewed and decided by Colorado’s appellate courts — are an equally important part of that authority. (These are not broadly available without subscriptions such as those Colorado family lawyers or other divorce professionals maintain.)
